Writing
We encourage our children to mark make from the earliest opportunity and to celebrate all that they do.
Transcriptional skills are a priority and focus for children in the Early Years and Key Stage One. We believe that it is essential for all children to have strong, well developed transcriptional skills to enable them to write with automaticity. This automaticity will support children to focus their working memory on the application of new knowledge within their written work.
At St Patrick's, we have developed a Writing Continuum for children in EYFS - Year 1 as well as for children in Year 2 to Year 6 in order to support them to develop and apply key skills and knowledge within their written work. Alongside this, we have a well structured and sequenced English curriculum to help children to build sequential knowledge to empower them as writers and to give them strong foundations and confidence for later life.

Developing Independent Writers Teaching Writing Continuum (Key Stage 1 - 2)
We have produced a continuum for the teaching of writing to complement our writing curriculum. Teachers adapt specific teaching of component knowledge to suit the needs of their pupils and to support pupils to apply this knowledge within their writing with greater independence through a gradual release of responsibility model.
