St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy

Journeying with Jesus

We are proud to work with all the Catholic schools across our two local authority areas, particularly as the Trust grows and benefits from the expertise and knowledge that other schools joining in the future will bring.

Pupil Leadership

At St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy, we develop pupil leadership through a servant leadership approach. We encourage children to put others first, take responsibility, and make positive choices in school and beyond. We aim to develop life long skills in our children so that they can make a positive contribution as adults.

We help pupils build independence by giving them opportunities to lead activities, support their classmates, and contribute ideas that improve daily life at school.

As parents, you can support this journey by praising effort, encouraging your child to take on small responsibilities at home, and reminding them that leadership means serving others, being independent, and staying resilient—especially when they face new experiences or difficulties.

What leadership roles do pupils take on at St Patrick's?

Head Boy and Head Girl

Our Head Boy and Head Girl are voted for by members of staff. They are children who consistently show excellent behaviour and are good role models for the school.

Their role is to support Mrs Boyes in various activities throughout the year. They take a leading role in the school council. They also give a monthly HB/HG award for a child in school who they have seen following our school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe.

The Head Boy and Head Girl also have a slot in our newsletter where they will share news and information 'from the ground'!

School Council

Our School Councillors support the Senior Leadership Team in making important decisions in school. They also take on roles of responsibility, such as collecting charitable donations and leading fundraising events. They are the voice of the students in their class and have had an impact on play-time equipment, updating our library and taking part in meetings with school visitors.

Our School Council representatives are voted for by their peers.

Reading Leaders

Reading leaders are children from Year 5 and 6 who help to look after and run our school library. They support staff in categorising new and existing books. They also help our younger children with finding a book that is suitable for them - developing reading for pleasure and a love of reading.

Reading Leaders also help Mrs Boyes to choose and run our book clubs, which have a different theme each time, from Lottie Brooks, to Beast Quest and everything in between!

For this role, we choose students who genuinely love reading!

Faith Friends

Our Faith Friends are KS2 children who support their teachers and peers with Celebrations of the Word and other special liturgies, reflections, mass and worships in school. Our Faith Friends are children who have showed an excellent attitude towards Catholic Life in school and who are committed to nurturing their Journey with Jesus.

Reception Buddies

In Year 6, children are buddied up with our Reception new starters. They begin the year helping them to settle in to 'big school' and throughout the year have opportunities to play and work with each other. This is such a special part of school for Reception and Year 6 and the children remember these links for years to come.

Peace Ambassadors

8 children are chosen each year to work as Peace Ambassadors in school. They support friendships during lunch time and help support children with conflict resolution. They are children who show excellent friendship and social skills. You can find them in purple hi-vis jackets on the playground!
