What is School Governance?
School governors work together with the Headteacher and school leaders to help shape the future of the school. They support the school's vision and values, ask questions, offer ideas and help make important decisions that are in the best interests of our pupils.
Governors don't get involved in the day-to-day running of the school. Instead, they focus on the bigger picture, helping to make sure the school provides a high-quality education, uses its budget wisely and continues to be a safe, happy and successful place for children to learn.
Who can be a Governor?
Anyone who is passionate about supporting our school and helping children achieve their best can become a school governor. Governors come from all walks of life and bring a variety of skills, knowledge and experiences to the role. You don't need to have a background in education – enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to make a positive difference are what's most important.
How can I become a Governor?
We're always pleased to hear from people who would like to get involved in supporting our school. When governor vacancies become available, we advertise them to our school community.
We currently have a Parent Governor vacancy. If you're a parent or carer of a child at our school and would like to play a part in helping shape the future of the school, we'd love to hear from you. For more information about the role or the election process, please contact the school office.
How many meetings do I attend as a Governor?
Our Governing Board meets six times during the school year. These meetings are where governors discuss important school matters, review progress and help plan for the future.
Governors are also very welcome to come along to school events throughout the year, such as performances, celebrations and open events. Visiting the school is a great way to see what's happening, meet pupils and staff, and be part of our school community.
How long is a Governor's term?
Governors are appointed for a four-year term. If your circumstances change, you can step down before the end of your term.
At the end of the four years, you're welcome to apply again if you'd like to continue as a governor.
